GREAT BIG SEA GOES FOR GOLD
September 17, 2008
Fortune's Favour, Great Big Sea's ninth studio release, has been certified gold in Canada! A great big congrats to the guys!

*HINT* Listen for two Chris Trapper co-written songs on the terrific (and newly crowned Gold Record) Fortunes Favour.

Chris wrote Long Lost Love and Dream To Live with Great Big Sea band member Sean McKann.

We asked Chris to talk about his experience co-writing for this go-round, this is what he told us:

"Sean (McKann) was visiting me in Boston for a few days, and he had a couple songs partially written, and I helped him finish them up, and put some meat on the bones, so to speak. He had the main verse idea, along with the sentiment of the songs. I think I added the chorus melody as well as lyrical stuff. With Sean, though, you almost don't notice that you're "officially" co-writing, until (Great BIg Sea's) manager contacts you looking for publishing info, because it is more just a casual hang, along with a genuine love for the craft of song writing."

"McCann, with the help of tunesmith Chris Trapper, offers up the song perhaps most deserving of attention, "Dream to Live," a number, according to the album's press kit, he wrote about his great uncle John over several pints of beer on St. Patrick's day in Boston." St John's Telegram

“SONGS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE WORLD” AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD
MARCH 12, 2008
Seventeen new Chris Trapper songs in a collection called "Songs from the Middle of the World," Solo/Acoustic Rarities, Voumel 1. has been released online at his myspace page, with a physical CD release to follow. Trapper describes the collection as "Very personal songs that I recorded along the way, sometimes between albums, and sometimes for albums, but left behind for one reason or another. I think most of these recordings have the feeling of reckless honesty, I guess, and maybe I was uncomfortable at first listen, because I wasn’t exactly ready to say what the song called for. Either way, as I listen back now, I think there’s a consistency to the material that lends itself to a collection, and a simplicity that reminds me of early blues or folk records."

PERFORMING SONGWRITER MAGAZINE NAMES "HEY YOU " A TOP PICK
DECEMBER 2007

Still, it’s his insightful, first-person perspective that entices, whether it’s the humor that belies pathos in “Wish I Was Cool” or the aimless malaise occupying “35th Birthday.” Add a wealth of arresting melodies and Hey You becomes a beckoning call that’s hard to ignore."
